The creative process behind Jazz Sailor is rooted in observation, research and transformation.
Rather than starting from purely musical ideas, the project begins with questions. How do musicians think while improvising? How do sailors make decisions in changing conditions?
These questions led to a research phase involving interviews, questionnaires and direct observation. The goal was to identify parallels between jazz improvisation and sailing practice.
Once patterns began to emerge, they were translated into musical concepts.
Rhythmic structures, melodic development and interaction between instruments were influenced by the dynamics observed in both fields.
Improvisation became a way to simulate real-time decision making. Composition became a tool to structure these experiences into coherent artistic forms.
This process resulted in original pieces that are not only musical works, but also reflections of a deeper investigation.
In Jazz Sailor, creativity is not separated from research. It is the direct consequence of it.
