Ceci n’est pas un trio pays homage to Belgium, the country that warmly welcomed Angelo, by referencing Magritte’s surrealism. Why? The answer lies in the band itself: with the organ not only contributing to the trio’s distinctive sound but also fulfilling the bass role, listeners might easily believe they are hearing four musicians instead of three.

Formed in late 2013, the trio emerged from the meeting of three musicians at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. Their vibrant, expertly executed repertoire quickly gained attention, leading to performances in numerous clubs and festivals, including the renowned Brussels Jazz Weekend.

At the core of this trio is a deep passion for the golden age of jazz—from the early New Orleans sounds captured by ODJB in 1917 to the swing of the great big bands of the 1940s.

Beyond their exceptional musicality, Angelo and his fellow musicians share a mission: to demonstrate that jazz is a living art form, intrinsically connected to other disciplines. Their performances reinterpret traditions, values, and stories—both historical and contemporary—through music.
